The Community Development Department exercises administrative supervision over the planning, development and redevelopment of commercial, industrial and residential property.  Work is performed under the general policy guidance of the Mayor and City Council. 

Specific responsibilities include the following:

•   Administering development projects;

•   Coordinating the interests of private and public developers with those of the general public to encourage the ultimate development of the City;

•   Preparing, processing and administering Federal and State Grants for development projects;

•   Providing professional advice and assistance to business leaders, industries, financial community and other groups and/or agencies;

•   Explaining new and revised planning, community development, and brownfield programs to professional and interest groups;

•   Ensuring that the Planning and Rehabilitation Commission maintains the City’s Master Plan, including coordination of related studies and current ordinances.  Update City’s zoning to mirror the Master Plan;

•   Assisting the Engineering and Building Department with buying and selling of real estate for the City;

•   Supervising the maintenance of records and preparation of reports concerning departmental activities;

•   Oversight of community concerns regarding compliance with property codes;

•   Coordinating programs to assist private entities to develop in the City;

•   Liaison to the Downtown Development Authority;

•   Managing and administering projects and activities of the Wyandotte Brownfield Redevelopment Authority;

•   Assisting the Engineering and Building Department with staff services to the Planning and Rehabilitation Commission.
