Brownfield Redevelopment Authority
[ Summary - As Applicable to Wyandotte, Michigan ]
The
City established its Brownfield Redevelopment Authority on August
25, 1997, pursuant to the Brownfield Redevelopment Financing Act,
Public Act 381 of 1996 as amended. The Authority is a 9-member
board appointed by the Mayor and approved by the City Council. The
Authority is responsible for reviewing and adopting Brownfield
Redevelopment Plans to promote the revitalization of properties
that are functionally obsolete, blighted or environmentally
distressed throughout the City.
The WBRA provides incentives to
the private sector to play an active role in the revitalization of
distressed real estate. These incentives allow utilization of tax
increment financing for Environmental Site Assessment activities,
environmental remediation, building demolition and Single Business
Tax credits.
As of April 2005, the WBRA and
Mayor and Council have approved seven (7) Brownfield Redevelopment
Plans, facilitating more than $34 million in property investment,
80,000 square feet of new or renovated commercial space, 215 jobs
and 163 housing units.
